THE RED MASS
The Most Reverend Thomas G. Wenski,
Archbishop of Miami, will celebrate the
11th Annual Monroe County Red Mass on
Friday, March 8, 2019 at 12:00 noon at
the Basilica of Saint Mary Star of the Sea.
The Red Mass is celebrated to recognize the noble and
valuable work performed by the Judiciary and members of the Bar
and all who assist them. It is a tradition in the Catholic Church
which dates from the 13th Century. The tradition of the Red Mass
has continued in the United States. In Washington, D.C., the
members of the United States Supreme Court join the President
and members of Congress in the celebration at the Cathedral of St.
Matthew the Apostle. The Red Mass is now celebrated in most
state capitals and major cities throughout the United States.
Though lawyers were invited through the Monroe County Bar
Association, those who serve us in the legal profession are
cordially invited as well as our parishioners and all people of good
will.
