“With a hymn composed in the eighth or ninth century, thus for over a thousand years, the Church has greeted Mary, the Mother of God, as “Star of the Sea”: Ave maris stella. Human life is a journey. Towards what destination? How do we find the way? Life is like a voyage on the sea of history, often dark and stormy, a voyage in which we watch for the stars that indicate the route. The true stars of our life are the people who have lived good lives. They are lights of hope. Certainly, Jesus Christ is the true light, the sun that has risen above all the shadows of history. But to reach him we also need lights close by—people who shine with his light and so guide us along our way. Who more than Mary could be a star of hope for us? With her “yes” she opened the door of our world to God himself; she became the living Ark of the Covenant, in whom God took flesh, became one of us, and pitched his tent among us (cf. Jn 1:14).

Pope Benedict XVI from his Encyclical Letter, Spe Salvi

THE LORICA OF SAINT PATRICK

Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.
I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the Threeness,
Through confession of the Oneness
of the Creator of creation.

Solemnity of Saint Joseph

Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer,
Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
To you God entrusted his only Son;
in you Mary placed her trust;
with you Christ became man.
Blessed Joseph, to us too,
show yourself a father
and guide us in the path of life.
Obtain for us grace, mercy, and courage,
and defend us from every evil.
Amen.

SOS Mission

Every First Sunday of the month, we are distributing grocery bags to replenish the food pantry. The bags are imprinted with those items most needed, but anything you can provide will help. You are welcome to place your charitable donations of non-perishable food for the Star of the Sea Outreach Mission by the Saint Joseph altar.

Disciples De La Misericordia

Religious Education

It is with great excitement that we announce the return of regular Religious Education classes in a classroom setting beginning on Thursday, October 19th. The Parish has formed a new Religious Education program team consisting of Ms. Helena Shivas, Ms. Anna Coppa, Ms. Kristin Haskins and Mrs. Maria Delpino. These wonderful ladies are excited to welcome our children back to the classroom this October.

Following the pandemic, we were forced to curtail our program to fit the safety measures prescribed for at that time. By God’s grace, we are now able to resume our complete program. We will be offering a Religious Education Program for kindergarten through seventh grade on Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Basilica School (700 Truman Ave). In addition, the Confirmation Class for eighth grade and up will continue to meet on Sundays at a new time of 6:00 p.m. This program will educate each child in their specific grade cohort, preparing them for the reception of the sacraments, and enable all the children of the parish to grow in love of God and each other.

You may also register by visiting the Rectory Office.

Everyone is welcome to spend some quiet time with Jesus in our Adoration Chapel. May we take advantage of this great opportunity to be in the presence of the Body of Christ. Come and let Him transform you. If you are interested in participating, please call Maria Del Pino at (305) 587-3545.
